5.0 SUMMARY
In this paper, we have tried to outline the major items which you must remember as you assess the performance of a Gas Turbine or GTG package.
Probably the most important is that you need to question the information presented to you, and you must be certain to understand the basis used in the presentation. Without that knowledge, you cannot make an intelligent evaluation of the equipment proposed.
Always remember that the performance of a Gas Turbine or GTG package will change from the initial nominal values, due to the following factors:
• Site elevation.
• Ambient temperature.
• Relative humidity.
• Inlet and exhaust conditions.
• The type of driven equipment.
• The associated auxiliaries losses (some belonging to the Gas Turbine or
GTG package, and some from the exterior supporting equipment).
• The type fuel used.
• The type of NOx suppression method used.
• New & Clean, Expected, Degraded, Guaranteed.
Don't be afraid to ask questions. Questioning information given at the proposal stage and during the initial assessment process is the smart thing to do. If you are not comfortable with the data given, keep asking questions until you are. Remember that it is your money, or your client's money, which the manufacturer is trying to access. It is far easier and less costly to change the configuration or equipment selection before construction than afterwards, and your customer will be happier.
